Programa británico de investigación para el incremento de la calidad de vida en la vejez

This article is based on the UK's Growing Older Programme 1999-2005. This project was sponsored by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) and represents the UK's largest single investment in social sciences research on ageing. The project consisted of 24 researchers, and when operating at full capacity, 96 researchers. This article aims to introduce this programme to a Spanish audience. Firstly, information is provided on the background to the programme, its commissioning process, its eventual structure and how it operated. Secondly, an overview is provided of the ways in which the programme has contributed new knowledge and perspectives of social gerontology. Comprehensive information cannot be provided in one article but there is a considerable literature arising from the programme (in English) which may be consulted.
