Infarto renal agudo de origen embólico en paciente anciano en fibrilación auricular

A 79-year-old male was admitted in our hospital for evaluation of abdominal pain. The most important results of complementary tests were the presence of elevated LDH, acute renal failure, alterations in urinary sediment and atrial fibrillation. Renal arteriography showed an acute embolus in a main branch of the right renal artery. Fibrinolytic therapy followed by intravenous and oral anticoagulation produced a slight improvement in renal function. We stress the major role played by diagnostic suspicion leading to an early diagnosis in this complex clinical context and emphasize the scarcity of medical literature on this topic in the aged.
