RésuméSans nier les multiples influences externes qui s’exercent sur les parents, et principalement la mère, dans le choix du mode d’alimentation du nouveau-né, nous privilégions une perspective psychodynamique pour aborder les mouvements internes en présence. Dans notre expérience, ce choix complexe nous paraît, actuellement, dépendre essentiellement d’éléments psychiques et historiques de la mère. Ces conflits internes peuvent malmener la mère qui peut se sentir très seule face à cette décision qui l’engage.

While accepting that parents, and especially mothers, are subject to many external influences when deciding how to feed their newborn baby, in this article we choose to examine what may occur within the maternal psychism itself. In our experience, this difficult choice seems at present to depend ultimately and essentially on elements present in the mother's psychic and historical constitution. These internal conflicts may be hard to bear for the mother, who finds herself alone facing this difficult but necessary decision.
