L’adoption à l’épreuve de l’adolescence

RésuméLa fréquence des situations cliniques impliquant un adolescent adopté et ses parents, la violence des conflits qui s’y expriment comme les difficultés à les dénouer plaident pour la mise en place d’une consultation spécialisée avec plusieurs objectifs : rassembler des expériences souvent éparses, faciliter l’accès aux soins, développer des approches thérapeutiques précoces, voire préventives. En effet, dans la quête identitaire qui les pousse à vouloir connaître impérativement la vérité sur leurs origines, ces adolescents mettent à rude épreuve la réciprocité de leurs liens avec leurs parents adoptifs, et de manière souvent déterminante pour l’avenir. Dans cet article, nous comptons faire partager notre démarche actuelle en l’éclairant de vignettes cliniques.

There has been a recent increase in frequency of clinical cases involving often violent and complex conflicts between an adopted teenager and his/her parents. In their quest to understand the truth about their previous familial history, these teenagers tend to severely challenge the reciprocity of their relation with their foster parents, with often decisive consequences for their future. This increase in incidents urges for the implementation of a new specialized approach with the following objectives: collect the too-often sparse experiences and history from the patient(s) and family, facilitate the access to care and, finally, develop early-on (and possibly preventive) therapeutic approaches. In this article, we plan to describe our current approach and illustrate its implementation with clinical cases.
