Chemiluminescence from paper III: the effect of superoxide anion and water

The corresponding chemiluminescent phenomena were also investigated and the experimental data using a superoxide scavenger seem to indicate that O2− is an important precursor of a luminescent species. The identity of this species is discussed, dimol singlet emission being proposed as a possible source of light. In order to study the effect of water in stationary conditions, a new instrument was constructed allowing us to control humidity in the atmosphere surrounding the sample during chemiluminescence measurements. Using this instrument, we were able to show that water has the role of chemiluminescence quencher, but it also participates in a chemical reaction leading to chemiluminescence.
