Possible scenario for future mission in Earth observation

In this paper, we analyse capabilities of the satellites in the Earth observation domain and more precisely in imaging the earth's surface. Since the very beginning of space technology, remote sensing satellites have been developed and a community of users has evolved. However, the commercial applications are a bit slow to develop as dependent on the extent of inventions that enable covering the cost of developing and operating space systems. We analyse the past trend and after having considered some aspects of the current demand, we make assumptions on a possible roadmap for technology and system evolution. The need for improvement in response time to user demand is emphasised and solutions are proposed.
