Biofunctionalization of scaffold material with nano-scaled diamond particles physisorbed with angiogenic factors enhances vessel growth after implantation

This contribution however shows that prior to applications in animal experimentation or clinical studies, the performance of definite particles in sustaining and providing the specific activity of the immobilized bioactive factors needs to be carefully scrutinized. A set of methods was devised for validation and selection of nDP also including in vivo testing on the chorio-allantoic membrane (CAM) of the developing chicken embryo. As depicted grafting of nDP, be it in their pristine form or carrying angiogenic growth factors onto a CAM may influence vessel formation. These tests provide means of standardized referencing of biofunctionalization of nano-scaled material for later use in regenerative medicine and tissue engineering.95
