⺠A tomato chloroplast glutathione reductase gene was cloned. ⺠We obtained antisense transgenic tomato lines with 60% decrease in GR activity. ⺠Transgenic plants displayed accumulation of H2O2 and improved sensitivity to chilling. ⺠Decrease in GR activity affected the activities of antioxidative enzymes APX and SOD. ⺠GR is essential for glutathione-ascorbate cycle and ROS scavenge.
