Correlates of 2009 H1N1 influenza vaccination among day care-aged children, Miami-Dade County

► Concerns about safety and side effects were the main deterrents to 2009 H1N1 vaccination amount the studied sample of day care-aged children. ► Minority groups, particularly Hispanic and Haitians had lower vaccination rates for 2009 H1N1 Influenza than non-Hispanic Whites and Blacks. ► Children with chronic diseases were more likely to get vaccinated for 2009 H1N1 Influenza. ► Physician recommendation was a key factor influencing 2009 H1N1 influenza. A significant number of physicians did not recommend the 2009 H1N1 influenza vaccine to their patients. ► Based on study results, clear, reliable and consistent dissemination of vaccine benefits and risks is crucial to successful vaccination efforts.
