Could the multicomponent meningococcal serogroup B vaccine (4CMenB) control Neisseria meningitidis capsular group X outbreaks in Africa?

► A new recombinant vaccine against meningococci group B is under registration. ► We examined coverage of group X isolates emerging in Africa (no available vaccine). ► Vaccine components are conserved and expressed in African serogroup X isolates. ► Sera from vaccinated subjects killed effectively serogroup X isolates. ► The vaccine can further be investigated to control serogroup X outbreaks.
