Structural characterization and electrical and optical properties of V2O5 films prepared via ultrasonic spraying

Vanadium pentoxide (V2O5) holds promise as an electrode material for lithium batteries and electrochromic devices, due to its high lithium ion intercalation. However, it remains challenging to make uniform, large-scale thin films with the conventional electrodeposition method. We prepared V2O5 films by ultrasonic spraying (ULS). Our study investigated the structural, surface morphological, electrochemical, and optical properties of films obtained using ULS on ITO glass. Compared with electrodeposited V2O5 films, sprayed films exhibited similar transmittance values but with relatively poor charge storage capacity. We found that the annealing temperature affected the ion storage capacity. After treatment at high temperatures, the films' charge capacities became more stable. The advantages in both cost and control may make ULS a useful method for preparing large-area films for electrochromic devices.
