Splint coals of the Central Appalachians: Petrographic and geochemical facies of the Peach Orchard No. 3 split coal bed, southern Magoffin County, Kentucky

► The Peach Orchard coal, eastern Kentucky, has high-inertinite lithologies (durain). ► The uppermost durain is enriched in reworked fusinite and semifusinite ► A durain in the middle of the coal bed is macrinite rich. ► The latter suggests a degradational origin of the lithology.
