Acides gras et dégénérescence maculaire liée à l'âge (DMLA)

Age-related macular degeneration (ARMD) is a growing chronic disease due to the ageing of the population. Nutritional factors are involved in its occurrence, particularly fatty acids. Physiological and experimental data show the role of omega 3 long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids (omega 3 LC PUFA) in retina function and structure and suggest than their deficit could be negative. Epidemiological studies are consistent and show that a high ω3 LC PUFA or fish intake is linked to a strong decrease of the ARMD risk. Some studies show that this protective effect disappear when linoleic acid intake increase.
