Atrial fibrillation: Challenges and opportunities

Atrial fibrillation (AF) is the most common sustained arrhythmia encountered in clinical practice. There are many pharmacological and nonpharmacological options available for AF patients. There is, however, a great deal of dissatisfaction with the available treatments of this arrhythmia. Furthermore, AF management remains associated with many challenges that make the treatment of AF a vexing problem. The present overview discusses these challenges and explores the opportunities associated with them.

La fibrillation auriculaire (FA) est l’arythmie la plus fréquemment rencontrée en pratique clinique. Plusieurs options pharmacologiques et non pharmacologiques sont offertes aux patients qui en souffrent. On note en revanche une profonde insatisfaction à l’égard des traitements administrés pour cette arythmie. De plus, le traitement de la FA reste associé à de nombreux défis et demeure un problème épineux. La présente synthèse fait le point sur les obstacles rencontrés dans ce domaine et explore différentes manières de contourner chacun.
