When and how to stop antiepileptic drugs

► About 70% of patients with epilepsy in remission do not relapse after treatment stop. ► Seizure relapse can be predicted by abnormal EEG, etiology and epilepsy syndrome. ► Scientific evidence is not sufficient to guide treatment decision. ► Drug discontinuation in seizure-free patients is still individualized. ► Patients and caregivers must be informed and involved in the decision process.
