Adolescents et téléphone portable, quelle place dans les unités d’hospitalisation ?

RésuméLe téléphone portable occupe une place prépondérante dans la société actuelle, particulièrement chez les adolescents. On constate une augmentation spectaculaire du nombre d’adolescents possédant un mobile, de 8 % en 1998 à 94 % en 2007. Dans le domaine scolaire, les conditions d’utilisation ne sont pas unanimes, entre discrétion et interdiction. À l’hôpital, c’est aux soignants d’en définir le statut. Écho des problématiques de l’adolescence, nous proposons d’étudier l’utilisation du téléphone portable comme un symptôme au travers de cas cliniques que nous développerons par la suite. D’une utilisation compulsive à un désinvestissement de l’objet, il peut générer et renforcer les liens sociaux tout comme isoler l’adolescent, renforçant alors un sentiment de solitude et engendrer une profonde souffrance. Si certains centres en ont interdit l’usage, il n’existe pas de consensus sur son utilisation au sein de l’hôpital de façon contractuelle, mais les positions diffèrent selon les services. Au sein de notre service accueillant des adolescents en situation de crise, les arguments sont en faveur d’une utilisation raisonnée du portable s’appuyant sur les singularités des situations cliniques.

Mobile phones occupy a dominating place in society, particularly for teenagers. A spectacular increase of mobile phone used among teenagers occurred, from 8% in 1998 to 94% in 2007. At school, conditions of use are not unanimous and vary from discretion to ban. At the hospital, it belongs to physicians and nurses to define it status. Mobile phone comes to echo the adolescence problems, as demonstrated in the following clinical cases, with a compulsive use and sometime a bulimia of contact. For some teenagers, this bulimia of contact can be addressed to the other teenagers, searching a support, which is not provided by their own family. For others, mobile phone is used to strengthen the link following the example of the fears of separation. The hardship of the telephone can then engender a profound suffering by increasing the feeling of solitude. Others else, subject to a social isolation, cut investment the object, are excluded from groups by cutting the links with the other teenagers to see their own family. Some centers forbid the use of mobile phone, in a contractual way, but the positions differ according to the services. Within our department setting in charge of the young people in crises, the arguments are in favour of a use resounded with the mobile phone leaning on the peculiarities of the clinical situations.
