L'offre de soins gériatriques en Afrique de l'Ouest : exemple de l'Institution de prévoyance retraite du Sénégal

The African population ages rapidly in the context of scarcity of resources where health policies in the continent mainly give privilege to women and children making it difficult for elderly people to access geriatric care. In West Africa, health initiatives and programs are at an embryonic level. In Senegal, in the context of the Sesame Plan for free medical care to people of 60 years of age and older, the Retirement and Pension Institution of Senegal has put in place a set of services for geriatric care for the retired community throughout the country. This policy articulated around its National University Center of Geriatrics and Gerontology and its Secondary Regional Centers can serve as an example in a sub-regional context of countries having in common the same framework of social coverage and higher education.
