Mizoribine-An inosine monophosphate dehydrogenase inhibitor-acts synergistically with cyclosporine A in prolonging survival of murine islet cell and heart transplants across major histocompatibility barrier

► Combined immunosuppressive effects of mizoribine (MZR) and cyclosporine (CsA) is highly efficacious in murine allogeneic heart and islet transplantation ► These agents act synergistically to decrease donor specific IFN-γ secreting cells and increase IL-10 secreting cells. ► Decreased pro-inflammatory mediators MCP-1, IFN-γ, IL-4, IL2, IL-6 and increase in IL-10 by CsA and MZR promote allograft survival.
