Ethnicity and mental health: the example of schizophrenia in migrant populations across Europe

Multiple studies in the past few decades using various methodologies have reported 5–10 times increased incidence rate of schizophrenia syndrome in African-Caribbean migrants to Europe than might be expected, and across generations. Increased incidences of lesser degree have also been reported in other ethnic minority migrant groups in Europe. This contribution describes this phenomenon and discusses possible causes.
