Sex difference in polybrominated diphenyl ether concentrations of walleyes

► Polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) are used as flame retardants in some products. ► Male walleyes were 2.8 times higher in PBDE concentration than females in Saginaw Bay. ► Results indicated a “hot spot” effect for PBDEs in Saginaw Bay walleye population. ► Non-point sources from landfills and floodplain soils led to Saginaw River “hot spot”. ► PBDE congener profiles suggested a sex difference in walleye diet composition.
