Small eddies observed in Lake Superior using SAR and sea surface temperature imagery

► We use SAR and AVHRR to characterize spiral eddies in Lake Superior. ► We examine images from the ice free months of 1992-1998. ► Eddies were located within the coastal waters. ► More eddies were observed in late summer than earlier in the season. ► Eddies were more often observed along the southern and eastern shores.
