A study on the influence of the 2008 Wenchuan earthquake on the stability of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau tectonic block system

► We calculated the velocity and stress fields of the studied region. ► We numerically simulated the rupture process of the 2008 Wenchuan earthquake. ► The movement and Coulomb failure stress (CFS) changes on boundary faults in the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau were calculated. ► The maximum deviation reaches 1.5 m on Wenchuan seismogenic fault. ► The maximum change of CFS reaches about 0.2 MPa at both ends of the Wenchuan seismogenic fault.
