Heavy mineral characteristics of the Neogene-Quaternary sediments from the southern part of the Blagoevgrad Basin, SW Bulgaria

The stratigraphic distribution of the heavy minerals fully supports the plausibility of the existing detailed allo- and lithostratigraphic subdivision, and the paleogeographic model for the development of the southern part of the basin. Also, the results provide support for the soundness of an allostratigraphic approach for the study and exploration of placer deposits in basins similar to the Blagoevgrad.
