Non-magnetic indicators of pedogenesis related to loess magnetic enhancement and depletion: Examples from the Czech Republic and southern Siberia

► Long-distance, MS-based correlation can be improved by sediment color proxies. ► MS fails to indicate loess weathering intensity in our sections. ► MS signal reveals a close relationship to redox potential during pedogenesis. ► Geochemical and color proxies are superior indicators of pedogenesis than MS. ► Considerable climate improvement occurred in MIS 3 in Europe and southern Siberia.
