Ketamine combinations for the field treatment of soman-induced self-sustaining status epilepticus. Review of current data and perspectives

► Soman-induced refractory status epilepticus is a challenging clinical condition. ► We review current data on the effectiveness of ketamine combinations with atropine. ► They show remarkable neuroprotective ability both in guinea-pigs and mice. ► They also counteract soman-induced changes in neuroinflammation and brain metabolism. ► They do not negatively impact thermoregulation, respiration or intracranial pressure.
