Combined astaxanthin and fish oil supplementation improves glutathione-based redox balance in rat plasma and neutrophils

► Effect of fish oil (FO) and astaxanthin (ASTA) on neutrophils function. ► FO+ASTA had beneficial effects on immune competence. ► FO had hypolipidemic/hypocholesterolemic effects and increased phagocytic activity. ► ASTA offered antioxidant/anti-apoptotic effects to activated neutrophils. ► Consumption of FO+ASTA improves immune response and reduces the cardiovascular risk.
