Mangiferin attenuates methylmercury induced cytotoxicity against IMR-32, human neuroblastoma cells by the inhibition of oxidative stress and free radical scavenging potential

► Mangiferin attenuates methylmercury induced cytotoxicity in IMR-32 cells. ► Pretreatment with mangiferin reduced methylmercury induced oxidative stress. ► Mangiferin aided in restoration of ΔΨm along with cytosolic Ca2+ homeostasis. ► Inhibition of apoptosis by downregulating bax, caspase-3 and cytochrome c release. ► Cytoprotection by mangiferin do not entail role of microtubule and metallothionein.
