ErbB1 epidermal growth factor receptor is a valid target for reducing the effects of multiple inhibitors of axonal regeneration

► We test the role of ErbB1 EGFR receptor in controlling neurite outgrowth. ► CNS myelin, CSPGs, fibrinogen and Poly I:C inhibited neurite outgrowth. ► Outgrowth from wild type neurons was disinhibited by ErbB1 kinase inhibitors. ► Disinhibition was shown to be dependent on the presence of ErbB1. ► ErbB1 kinase is a valid target for enhancing axonal regeneration in the CNS.
