Future seagrass beds: Can increased productivity lead to increased carbon storage?

► We use natural CO2 seeps to identify if seagrasses could mitigate leakage from CCS activities. ► Seagrass productivity and abundance increased with increasing CO2. ► Importantly, belowground biomass increased fivefold, increasing the carbon storage potential.
