Twenty years later - Atrazine concentrations in selected coastal waters of the Mediterranean and the Baltic Sea

► Despite its EU-wide ban atrazine was frequently detected in the Aegean Sea. ► A concentration gradient from East to West was observed in the Aegean Sea. ► The highest concentrations were detected in the Dardanelles and Istanbul. ► Low detection frequencies in the Baltic Sea and the Northern Atlantic Sea. ► High detection frequency of terbuthylazine in the Northern Atlantic raises concern.
