Effectiveness of emetics to study plastic ingestion by Leach's Storm-petrels (Oceanodroma leucorhoa)

► We used the emetic ipecac to study plastic ingestion in Leach's Storm-petrels in Newfoundland, Canada. ► 48% of birds contained plastic, ranging from 0 to 17 pieces. ► Plastic ingestion has increased in this species in the northwest Atlantic. ► Ipecac is a useful tool for monitoring plastic ingestion in live birds.
