► The first report about the whole life cycle data for PBDE toxicity in fish. ► Both molecular responses and the response of sex hormones upon exposure to DE-71. ► Both nominal and measured concentrations of PBDE in water were listed. ► DE-71 disrupted various hormones and receptors along the BPG axis of fish. ► The observed disruptions may occur at environmentally realistic level.
