Spatial and temporal dynamics of size-structured photosynthetic parameters (PAM) and primary production (13C) of pico- and nano-phytoplankton in an atoll lagoon

► We studied photosynthesis and primary production of phytoplankton in an atoll lagoon. ► A significant spatial pattern was evidenced which was persistent over time. ► Larger cells exhibited different properties than smaller ones in space. ► Dynamic of the photosynthetic parameters was independent of light availability. ► These patterns are discussed in the context of nutrient availability.
