Persistent organic pollutants in the endangered Hawaiian monk seal (Monachus schauinslandi) from the main Hawaiian Islands

► POPs were measured in Hawaiian monk seals from the Main Hawaiian Islands. ► Adult males had higher levels of POPs compared with adult females and juveniles. ► A significant correlation was found between blubber and serum POPs in individuals. ► POPs in HMS were at intermediate levels compared to pinnipeds from previous studies. ► POPs in seals from the MHI were not higher than seals from the NWHI as expected.
