Asia-Pacific mussel watch for emerging pollutants: Distribution of synthetic musks and benzotriazole UV stabilizers in Asian and US coastal waters

► Mussels were collected from 10 countries from Asia-Pacific regions. ► We analyzed emerging pollutants, synthetic musks and benzotriazole UV stabilizers (BUVSs). ► Ubiquitous and widespread distribution of these pollutants were found. ► The concentrations of emerging pollutants are comparable or greater than those of legacy POPs. ► This is first study of large-scale monitoring of synthetic musks and BUVSs in Asia-Pacific coastal waters.
