Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons in commercial fish and lobsters from the coastal waters of Madagascar following an oil spill in August 2009

► Levels of three regulated carcinogenic PAH were below EU/UK limits. ► PAH expressed as toxic equivalents were well below levels of concern. ► Evaluation of the data indicated that the origin of the PAH was >80% petrogenic. ► Low-level multisource contamination represents a pre-spill background for the area.
