Seasonal and spatial heterogeneity of recent sea surface temperature trends in the Caribbean Sea and southeast Gulf of Mexico

► We quantified overall SST trends at an intra-Caribbean scale for the first time. ► We quantified seasonal SST trends in the Caribbean for the first time. ► We used a robust statistical method to quantify trends. ► There is high spatial heterogeneity in rates of change of temperature in the basin. ► Warming is faster during summer, which challenges some expectations.
