The cumulative impacts of reclamation and dredging on the marine ecology and land-use in the Kingdom of Bahrain

► Extensive land reclamation reached a high rate of 21 km2/year during 1997-2007. ► Geographic features of Bahrain during 1963-2007/08 were produced using GIS. ► Estimated cumulative loss of habitats resulting from 10 projects was 153.58 km2. ► The study assigns a monetary value to the marine ecosystem functions. ► Coastal zone management for a sustainable use of the marine resources is required.
