River discharge reduces reef coral diversity in Palau

► No differences in growth rates and mortality of transplanted corals along a river gradient. ► Coral cover and richness increased away from the mouth of the bay. ► There was a negative relationship between coral cover and mean suspended solids concentration. ► There were negative relationships between sedimentation rates and coral community parameters.
