Effect of magnetic ion exchange and ozonation on disinfection by-product formation

► Compared to raw or alum-coagulated water, ozonation of MIEX-treated waters produced less bromate. ► Bromide removal by MIEX resin increased with increasing resin doses. ► MIEX resin treatment resulted in greater removal of TOC than alum coagulation. ► Treatment with alum and MIEX resin significantly reduced the ozone demand. ► MIEX resin or alum in combination with ozone significantly reduced the THMFP of the waters studied.
