Constraints on magma processes, subsurface conditions, and total volatile flux at Bezymianny Volcano in 2007-2010 from direct and remote volcanic gas measurements

► 2007 & 2009 fumarole samples indicate degassing of shallow & deep magma, respectively. ► Total volatile flux of 47.7 and 3 kt/day are found in 2007 and 2009, respectively. ► Passive gas emissions comprise 87-97% of total emissions at Bezymianny Volcano. ► More magma degasses than erupts at Bezymianny Volcano. ► Deep magma recharge and ascent controls eruptions of Bezymianny Volcano.
