Infilling of missing rainfall and streamflow data in the Shire River basin, Malawi - A self organizing map approach

► Streamflow and rainfall data are infilled using SOM. ► SOM predictive performance is measured in terms of R2 and time series plots. ► SOM is robust to large data sets and high proportion of missing values. ► It offers an effective and robust alternative to traditional infilling approaches. ► However, quality of prediction is affected by the homogeneity of the data set.
