Determination of characteristics and drinking water quality index in Mzuzu City, Northern Malawi

► All water samples were soft waters. ► pH registered a good water quality rating for both raw and treated water. ► Nitrates significantly affected the overall water quality index. ► Good-excellent water quality ratings suggested substantial water treatment by the Northern Region water Board.
