Seasonal patterns of foliar reflectance in relation to photosynthetic capacity and color index in two co-occurring tree species, Quercus rubra and Betula papyrifera

► We studied the seasonal patterns in leaf reflectance, photosynthesis and color in two tree species. ► We aimed at elucidating the interdependence of drivers of large-scale remotely sensed signals. ► Spectral indices accurately reflected leaf physiology and model parameters throughout season. ► Information from digital imaging should be interpreted with care during leaf expansion.
