Since the 1990s, many publications report their analgesic efficacy in a wide range of rheumatic disorders. Experimental animal studies and clinical studies confirm these analgesic effects by inhibiting bone resorption and acidic microenvironment created by osteoclasts, but also by the action on other cells, as well as modulation of nociceptive pathways. However, these prescriptions remain for most not approved. Prescribing safely bisphosphonates for the treatment of refractory pain should be a priority for the clinician focusing one infusion with less persistent compounds.
