Les attentes positives envers l'alcool

This study examines the psychometric qualities of a French version of the Alcohol Expectancy Questionnaire for Adults (AEQ-III; Brown, and al., 1980). A sample of 373 individuals aged 18 to 64 years old completed the AEQ and additional self-report measures. Similar to the original version, a six-factor solution provided the best overall model of the data. However, the item content of several French factors differed significantly from the American version. The internal consistencies were above.70 for five of the six resulting scales, and the first four scales were also significantly correlated with alcohol use over the previous 30 days. The findings confirm the association of alcohol expectancies and alcohol use, but also underscore the possibility of cultural differences that may necessitate the development of instruments specific to the French population.
