Major and trace elements in sclerotium of Pleurotus tuber-regium (Ósū) mushroom-Dietary intake and risk in southeastern Nigeria

► The levels of 20 elements were determined in sclerotia of Pleurotus tuber-regium. ► Lead and Cd were below the EU limits for fungi. ► Hg concentrations were between 0.0033-0.15 μg/g. ► Consumption of sclerotia of P. tuber-regium poses no toxicological health risks. ► The Zn, Mn, Cu, Co, and Cr contents would contribute to dietary intake.
