Use of polydimethylsiloxane thin film as vertical liquid crystal alignment layer

► The use of PDMS thin films as liquid crystal alignment layers is studied. ► The surface free energies of PDMS films are very low and thermally stable. ► PDMS support vertical liquid crystal alignment in a wide temperature range. ► PDMS aligned liquid crystals operate very well in in-plane-switch mode.
