The studies to determine the relationship between the prevalence of allergic diseases and cancer have been undertaken for many years. Researchers emphasize the important role of immune system in the pathogenesis of both types of diseases. Previous studies indicate both a positive and a negative correlation on allergic diseases and cancer. Among the mechanisms to explain these relationships, scientists stress the participation of a number of factors, such as genetic disorders, environmental influences or habits. The only causal treatment of diseases of allergy is allergen-specific immunotherapy. There is unfortunately lack of explicit research analyzing the impact of this treatment on the risk of cancer. Analyzing all the factors affecting the occurrence of malignancies, including the impact of the use of allergen-specific immunotherapy in the treatment of allergic diseases, will allow for the implementation of preventive measures, which will result in reduction of risk factors for malignant diseases.
