Radiative heat power at Stromboli volcano during 2000-2011: Twelve years of MODIS observations

► The heat radiated by Stromboli is subdivided in two main regimes, strombolian and effusive. ► A threshold of ~ 50 MW represents the transition between the two regimes. ► Within the strombolian regime the radiative power is controlled by the magma level within the conduit. ► Several monthly fluctuations of the magma level occurred between 2000 and 2011. ► An increase in the thermal output is evident since 2008.
